POSITION SUMMARY

The MFM Nurse is a Registered Nurse (RN) with experience in caring for pregnant women in high risk pregnancies. This is an outpatient clinical position based in the Munson Healthcare MFM Clinic. The MFM Nurse has job responsibilities in the areas of clinical nursing, care coordination, patient and family education and general oversight of the daily operations of the MFM Clinic. Responsibilities include coordinating with front office and clinical support staff as well as other flow functions and working in direct coordination and collaboration with the MFM team.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan; Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing preferred.

  • For those hired into an RN position after January 1st, 2015, it is required to obtain a BSN within 5 years of start date.

  • A minimum of three years’ RN experience working in Labor and Delivery.

  • Possesses a proven ability to utilize proper clinical assessment and critical decision making skills related to MFM-specific patient population.

  • Possesses ability to effectively use computer systems.

  • Possesses superior communication and customer service skills.

  • Has demonstrated above average oral and written communication skills.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to function responsibly in a minimally supervised work situation.

  • Has demonstrated the ability to be a self-starter, has superior organization skills, and attends to details.

  • Must possess a team orientation for goal achievement.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  6. Maintains ability to travel to regional system and partner hospitals to assist and support in providing MFM services.

  7. Coordinates and manages day-to-day clinic operations, as well as communication with referring provider offices as well as inpatient OB units.

  8. Coordinates case preparation, follow-up and referral coordination with care teams within Munson Healthcare as well as with community resources and agencies to promote optimal care transitions.

  9. Can participate with the MFM team in planning case review and other regional quality support activities

  10. Education responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Educate patients and their families about their prescribed follow-up, medications, therapies, and teaching self-injection skills as needed.

  11. Directly oversees and provides responsible clerical support in outpatient clinic for the following functions: answering incoming phone calls, check-in, check-out, registration and appointment scheduling, insurance verification, transactions and charge entry, referrals.

  12. Assist with ordering all office and medical supplies as needed.

  13. Coaches support staff to perform their responsibilities with efficiency through leading by example and by working with support staff as necessary. Provides input to staff annual discussions.

  14. Ensures compliance with established human resource and operational policies and procedures. Coordinates documentation as required.

  15. Participates in Third Party Use guidelines, implementation and compliance.

  16. Supports practice management software and utilizes office EMR as appropriate.

  17. Works to resolve problems and complaints regarding office. Responds to provider requests regarding particular problem areas

  18. Performs other duties as assigned.
