Performs special diagnostic interventional angiographic procedures, competent in operating a c-arm, and assists the Neurointerventional (NIR) tech during cases.
Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of all equipment components, including patient monitoring devices.
Assist physicians in performing invasive procedures, coordinating care in an assigned room, and providing patient care. Responsible for working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary health care team.
Must have passed the examination of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and remain in good standing.
At least two years’ previous experience as a Staff Technologist.
Previous experience in any Radiology subspecialty desirable, such as Special Procedures, Mammography, Nuclear Medicine, MRI, CT or Ultrasound.
Working knowledge of operating a C-arm.
Maintains BCLS certification with annual renewal.
Receives functional supervision from the Coordinator of Special Procedures and reports to the Managers or Director of Radiology.

May help Radiology nurse educate and prepare patient and family for examination, i.e., patient preparation, patient history, patient’s physical abilities and psychological needs.
Prepares patient for sterile procedure.
Responsible for identifying and assisting in a medical emergency.
Performs daily tests and maintenance on x-ray equipment and special imaging computers.
Works with sterile field, assisting the radiologist with invasive procedures, i.e., percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, renal stone removal, ureteral stent placement, etc.
Sets contrast injection rates on power injector.
Has knowledge and special training in digital subtraction angiographic techniques, i.e. manipulation digital images, selecting technical factors to enhance images.
Assists the Neurointerventional tech and Cerebrovascular Endovascular Neurosurgeon during Neuro procedures.
Assembles sterile procedure tray.
Compensates for malfunction of equipment.
Has a working knowledge of a large array of needles, catheters, drainage catheters, guidewires, etc.
Properly disposes of body fluids, sharps, needles and wastes from procedures.
Generates and organizes patient charges, authorizations, doctor’s orders, supporting documents, etc.
Positions patient to achieve the best demonstration of vascular anatomy.
Orders and stocks procedural equipment in room.
May be required to assist in the development of technical factors and film selection.
May assist in the use of a variety of equipment or procedure not routinely taught.
Performs a variety of related clerical tasks as necessary
Rotates within the department or other departments and shifts as required.
Performs on call duty.
Takes advantage of opportunities for continuing education as provided by the department or seminars available for the various specialties.
Adheres to prescribed standards for Radiation Safety.
Handles equipment in a responsible, professional manner.
Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary in order to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress and gather and exchange patient information with nursing personnel and physicians.
Cooperates with all department and hospital personnel and Medical Staff in a positive and professional manner, maintaining ethical relationships.
Must be exacting in recording the required patient information on department forms and radiographs.
Must be able to act quickly and decisively in emergency situations and deviate from routine procedures when specific patient conditions require.
