ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Graduate of a recognized and accredited school of nursing and currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

Bachelor's degree required in nursing, education, or related field. Minimum of at least (3) years of acute care nursing experience required.

One year of formal classroom experience as an adult educator is recommended.

Experience in the development and coordination of educational programs is recommended.

Proficiency using Windows format and in software required for developing documentation, specifically Microsoft Office products.

Ability to discuss clients needs and teaching needs with management personnel, encouraging their support for the understanding of the importance of training, learning curves, expected productivity, etc., for the overall benefit of the organization.

Creative ability to develop class agendas and materials and to present them in inspiring and interesting ways. Writing ability for newsletter production and class manuals.

Ability to gain student interest and promote their enthusiasm for and use of the technologies being promoted for the personal benefit of the employees and the financial benefit to the organization.

Diplomacy and tact in dealing with clients, especially those who are beginning in the use of computers. Ability to encourage questions and increase understanding of the technology.

May be required to lift more than 35 pounds

Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development

  1. Assessment · Collects pertinent data related to the potential educational needs of the learner in a systematic and ongoing manner using a variety of appropriate assessment techniques and instruments. · Documents relevant data in a retrievable form.
  • Diagnosis: Analysis to Determine Target Audience and Learner Needs

· Analyzes the assessment data to determine the target audience and learner needs. · Validates the identified needs with the learner, consumer, content experts, and other educators. · Documents the identified needs in a manner that facilitates the determination of purpose statements, educational objectives, program content, and evaluation criteria.

  • Identification of Educational Outcomes

· Identifies the general purpose statement and educational objectives based on the learners identified needs and incorporates the principles of adult learning. · Determines educational objectives that are culturally appropriate, realistic, attainable, measurable, and includes a time estimate and explanation of the requirements for fulfillment. · Documents the mutually formulated educational objectives in behavioral terms.

  • Planning

· Identifies and collaborates with the content experts to develop learning activities utilizing adult learning and instructional design principles, to facilitate the learners' achievement of the educational objectives. · Individualizes the learning activity content based on input from the target audience, the resources available, and the domains of learning. · Develops and documents a content outline that reflects the educational objectives, as well as current information and technology. · Determines most effective use of technologies to enhance learner attainment of objectives for each educational activity. · Follows MNA or other accrediting organizations' criteria for continuing education credit, when applicable. · Utilizes sound business practices when planning the budget for a program. Estimates costs of new training in yearly budgeting process. · Participates in planning annual program calendar. · Assures that all marketing and promotional material accurately reflects all aspects of the educational activity.

  • Implementation

· Ensures that educational activities are implemented in a timely and appropriate manner, are consistent with the planned general purpose, educational objectives, and content outline, and is varied, interactive and designed to meet the needs of the adult learner. · Facilitates educational activities by arranging for a delegating the following tasks: topic, speaker, date, time, place, equipment needs, dietary needs, budget, and promotional material. · Teaches within ones' scope of knowledge and expertise. · Provides to the learner and documents the criteria for successful completion and verification of completion for the educational activity.

  • Evaluation

· Conducts systematic, ongoing, criterion-based evaluations involving the educator, faculty, and learners, as appropriate. · Evaluation data is used to revise the purpose statement, educational objectives, content, method of delivery, and location of the educational activity, as needed. A revision made to an educational activity is documented. · Documents a summary of the evaluation responses and the achievement of the outcomes for specified classes, and shares this information with the appropriate persons, such as the content experts, presenters, and planning committee. · Incorporates evaluation data in the future planning of educational activities. · Assesses effectiveness of instruction.

  • Quality of Nursing Professional Development Practice

· Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing professional development practice. · Embraces, supports, and utilizes the Continuous Quality Improvement (PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT & PATIENT SAFETY) philosophy of Munson Medical Center. Participates in performance improvement activities, such as identifying indicators, collecting data, and analyzing data for monitoring the quality and effectiveness of nursing professional development. · Participates on intra- and interdisciplinary teams that evaluate professional development. · Develops, implements, evaluates, and functions within policies and procedures to improve the quality of nursing professional development practice. · Evaluates, formulates and implements learning activities to enhance the quality of nursing professional development. · Acknowledges that safety is a self-responsibility. Knows the physical requirements of the job and works within those guidelines. Performs job duties safely at all times, utilizing learned body mechanics and transferring/lifting techniques. · Plans actions to promote safety. Reports any unsafe conditions/equipment according to Hospital Procedure. · *Administrates the nursing contact hour credit continuing education providership process. · *Prepares or supervises the preparation and maintenance of reports and files for accreditation approval.
