ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  1. Currently licensed as Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

  2. Baccalaureate degree in Nursing required, MSN preferred.

  3. Experience in the clinical area is required.

  4. Previous leadership experience preferred.

  5. Ability to direct others and negotiate for desired results.

  6. Ability to work well as part of the leadership team.

  7. Demonstrates decision-making and problem solving skills

  8. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  9. Clinical competency in specialty area

  10. Professional role model behavior required.

  11. Demonstrates competence with Microsoft Office applications.

  12. BCLS required.

  13. PALS required.

  14. ACLS required.

  15. TCAR required.

  16. CAPA or CPAN certification required after eligibility met.

ORGANIZATION

  1. Reports to the Perianesthesia Nurse Manager.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Daily Operations:

  1. Works as a core charge nurse as scheduled. Assists with patient care if needed to ensure patient safety.

  2. Is responsible for assessing daily staffing, taking into consideration the following elements:

a. Number of OR and ancillary cases

b. Acuity of cases

c. Staff number and experience

d. Bed situation in the unit and the hospital

  1. Acts as a perianesthesia patient care and nursing practice resource to staff.

Quality:

  1. Facilitates compliance with JCAHO and other accrediting agencies.

Team Development:

  • Independently facilitates team meetings and process improvement projects.

  • Provides coaching and facilitation to develop the perianesthesia team. This may involve managing conflict by confronting issues and inappropriate behaviors.

  • Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively with staff and other MMC employees.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to positive change and increasing employee engagement.

  • Be a role model for True North Leadership.
