McLaren Health Care Coder II- St. Luke's in Shelby Township, Michigan
Position Summary :
Responsible for coding hospital inpatient stays (Inpatient Coder II) or outpatient records (Outpatient Coder II) reviews documentation and properly identifies and assigns codes for all reportable diagnoses and procedures. This includes determining the correct principal diagnosis, co-morbidities and complications, secondary conditions and surgical procedures.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities :
- Outpatient Coder II will be responsible for coding and charge validation (charge entry):
a. Observation, Same Day Surgery, Clinic, Infusion, or
b. Cath lab, IR, or
c. Hem/ONC, Rad/ONC, or
d. Procedure coding for Pain Management, Wound Care or
e. Professional Specialty Coding, Specialty Surgery or
- Inpatient Coder II will be responsible for coding:
a. Inpatient visits (inclusive of < 30 days of LOS and >30 days of LOS)
Applies (charge enter) appropriate soft codes for evaluation and management level(s), observation hours, injections, infusions, and other procedures as necessary.
Validates CPT codes (charges) captured by McLaren departments such as hard-coded charges for services provided on specific encounters.
Performs research and investigation regarding National Coverage Determinations (NCD) and Local Coverage Determinations (LCD) guidelines, related to the assignment of modifiers.
Associate degree in HIT or healthcare related field.
Three years of facility inpatient, outpatient or professional coding experience.
RHIT (Registered Health Information Technician) or CCS (Certified Coding Specialist) AHIMA certification.
