Beaumont Health Medical Assistant in Royal Oak, Michigan

General Summary:

Maintains patient flow by assisting and promoting the delivery of primary and preventative healthcare. Performs technical procedures, lab protocols, and clinically oriented activities under physician/provider direction.

Essential Duties:

Must be able to perform diagnostic testing, EKGs, administer injections, obtain vital signs, demonstrate safe medication handling and administration, navigate Epic One Chart electronic health record, and assist with minor surgical procedures.

Job Specific Duties:

A. Clinical

Assists the MD/RN in the clinic setting in providing outpatient care for nephrology/transplant patients

? Coordinates patient inflow for clinic - obtain vital signs and weight and document in patient clinic records. Prepares charts to facilitate lab follow-up. Communicates with RN/MD re: status of patient in clinic setting. Prepares paperwork/charts for each clinic day.

? Performs all phlebotomy services for the patient while in clinic/physician setting.

? Contacts appropriate department for lab pickups or delivers specimen as needed.

B. Front Office

Initial representative of the department for the patient. Organizes the EMR/chart and clinic paperwork for entry into the clinic for services.

1. Assists the Nurse Clinicians in managing patients in the pre and post-transplant stage.

? Triage telephone calls for RN's/MD's.

? Initiates/Coordinates/Maintains patient registration process, obtaining paperwork, and organizing EMR/chart.

? Registers patients in EPIC and monitors/maintains electronic schedules.

*2. *Utilizes computer systems to complete a variety of tasks.

? Uses OneChart/EPIC to obtain medical record results as needed for job duties or as requested by RN/MD

? May assist with the required federal form documentation (TIEDI) via electronic transfer to UNOS.

? Organizes/maintains multiple databases for patient tracking, statistics, and delivery of care monitoring.

? May need to assist with correspondences and form letters for patients, referring MD's, and team members to assist in the delivery of quality patient care.

? Obtains referrals and ensures patient that insurance approval for physician clinic/lab appointments.

? Schedules tests/procedures. Assists in the communication/correspondence to patients about testing plans. Maintains recipient/donor evaluation forms. Communicates with MD offices and boarding office. Triages test results with chart to appropriate RN.

? Typing 40 wpm preferred. Word processing with database computer skills preferred.

? Must have phlebotomy experience. EMR Computer experience required. Experience in front office/billing operations and physician appointment scheduling for medical office preferred.

Standard Qualification:

High School Diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or LPN, EMT, ER Tech, Paramedic certification or equivalent and relevant experience required.

Current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association.
