uJOB SUMMARY/u Works under the general supervision of the Director of HIM, Chief Compliance Officer Chief Privacy Officer,the HIM Facility Coding Supervisor oversees the activities of the (HIM) Coding Department. The purpose of this position is to create consistency and efficiency in outpatient and inpatient coding, claim processing and data collection to optimize MS-DRG/APC reimbursement and facilitate data quality in the hospital inpatient and outpatient services.Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience. Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care. uPRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES/u ol liDemonstrates knowledge of, and supports, Memorial Healthcarersquo;s mission, vision,value statements, Standards of Behavior, policies and procedures, operating instructions, HIPAA Privacy and confidentiality standards, corporate compliance plan, code of ethical behavior and commitment to service excellence./li liSupervise the HIM Coding Department ensure compliance with all third party and government regulations./li liAssesses, evaluates and addresses daily workload and queues and adjusts work schedules daily to meet the workload demands of the department./li liResponsible for evaluating and educating coding staff and insuring productivity of team./li liConducts ongoing record audits to verify coding and grouping accuracy./li liPerforms educational sessions for coding team, documentation specialists, and physicians./li liResponsible for improving process and quality in order to meet department targets through collaboration with the team and relevant departments. Report and track measurable on projects, productivity, and fulfill requests for reports./li liMaintains a working knowledge of inpatient/outpatient coding principles, coding regulations, policies and guidelines. Develops and maintains coding/abstracting policies and procedures to ensure compliant and consistent coding practices. Conducts coding research as needed. Insure appropriate dissemination of information to coding team and/or any other pertinent individuals or departments, as necessary./li liResponsible for department's operational excellence; assures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures and professional standards. Conducts/coordinates regular coding quality reviews and coordinates ongoing monitoring of coding accuracy and clinical documentation adequacy. Performs second level reviews, as appropriate and acts as coding advisor./li liMonitors and maintains data on employee compliance with productivity and quality standards and takes appropriate action./li liDevelops and maintains coding guidelines for the coding staff and coordinates the ongoing development of the coding staff as indicated./li liMonitors unbilled account reports for outstanding services or un-coded discharges to reduce accounts receivable days for inpatients and/or outpatients./li liIdentifies all problem areas and areas of opportunity regarding unbilled accounts./li liMonitors outstanding accounts due to medical record diagnostic deficiencies as reported in the Delayed Not Final Billed Report in support of timely and accurate transmission to accounts receivable./li liAssures compliance for retrospective reviews for all patient types including inpatients, outpatients in a bed, observations, extended recoveries, referred patients, etc./li liManagement-level responsibilities include:
