State of Michigan Departmental Technician (7-E9) (Investigative Support Technician) in Okemos, Michigan

Job Description

The MDHHS mission is to provide opportunities, services, and programs that promote a healthy, safe, and stable environment for residents to be self-sufficient. We are committed to ensuring a diverse workforce and a work environment whereby all employees are treated with dignity, respect and fairness. The MDHHS OIG Integrity Division (ID) conducts investigations into alleged Medicaid provider fraud, waste and abuse and receives allegations of potentially fraudulent activity from various sources, including the public, beneficiaries, providers, and other government and/or state law enforcement and regulatory agencies.

Due to the magnitude and complexity of Michigan’s health services program, ID utilizes specialized investigative units. Each unit primarily investigates cases dealing with providers in their assigned region.

This position is responsible for case creation into ID's case tracking system, the Medicaid Audit Recovery & Investigation System (MARIS), as a result of these allegations of potentially fraudulent activity. The position's purpose as an entry level Departmental Technician is to assist with the functions utilized to monitor all the duties within a section of regionally assigned healthcare fraud investigators:

  • monitors various ID email boxes and coordinates timely communication to appropriate healthcare fraud investigators (e.g., provider responses to overpayment notices, provider appeal notices, etc.).
  • performs quality control reviews of all Medicaid provider overpayment notices drafted by the healthcare fraud investigations for the assigned investigation section.
  • communicates overpayment notices to Medicaid providers through email and/or mail.
  • enters receivables and payments into the Adult Services Authorized Payments (ASAP) system.
  • creates gross adjustments in the Community Health Automated Medicaid Processing System (CHAMPS).
  • performs data entry to ensure all receivables and payments are timely and accurately accounted for in MARIS. The Office of Inspector General is a criminal justice agency within MDHHS. OIG’s function is to investigate instances of alleged fraud, waste and abuse in all programs administered by the department, as well as reviewing administrative policies and procedures and recommending ways of improving accountability, fraud detection and deterrence.
