Activities encompass statewide promotion of cancer genomics best practices such as Lynch syndrome screening and cascade testing as well as efforts targeting high risk or underserved populations. The position works with internal and external stakeholders to identify emerging scientific advances and promote appropriate uses of genomic information in public health programs and clinical settings to improve population health, particularly hereditary causes of cancer. Based in the Lifecourse Epidemiology and Genomics Division (LEGD) at the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) in Lansing, this position works closely with the public health genomics manager, the cancer genomics project director and epidemiologist, and the chronic disease epidemiology manager; internal partners including the MDHHS Cancer Prevention and Control Section, as well as external partners from the Michigan Cancer Genetics Alliance, universities, health care providers; and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Public Health Genomics Coordinator also provides consultation and coordinates activities that enhance communication, education, and awareness among health care providers and the public. The position is also responsible for assisting with preparation of applications for relevant grants and cooperative agreements.Duties and Responsibilities:and#8226;Serve as a recognized resource for implementation of the MDHHS Cancer Genomics Program and assist with implementing the Cancer Genomics Cooperative Agreement funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).and#8226;Lead activities related to cancer genomics best practices for health policy in conjunction with project director(s), program staff, internal and external partners to assure objectives are met.and#8226;Acquire and utilize expertise on standards-of-care for hereditary breast/ovarian, colorectal and other cancers including current recommendations for genetic counseling and testing.and#8226;Monitor national developments and maintain knowledge of the public health implications of scientific advances related to cancer genomics and precision medicine.and#8226;Provide consultation and technical assistance on topics requiring clinical genetics expertise.and#8226;Coordinate preparation and submission of required progress reports and continuation applications.and#8226;Prepare work statements and assist with subcontracting process for clinical network and expert consultant contractual agreements; Assure timely implementation of work plan activities; Maintain records and prepare reports.and#8226;Participate in CDC grantee meetings and conference calls; and serve as liaison between MDHHS, CDC staff, other grantees, and their advisory committees.and#8226;Prepare oraloster presentations and journal manuscripts to share accomplishments and promote the MDHHS Cancer Genomics Program with state and federal partners.and#8226;Maintain Michigan cancer genetics clinic directory and partner email lists.and#8226;Facilitate designated partner meetings; prepare agendas and minutes as needed.and#8226;Serve as cancer genomics educator for health professionals and the public.and#8226;Work with staff to identify opportunities to promote awareness of cancer genomics best practices and assist with development of outreach strategies and educational materials.and#8226;Participa
