Position Summary

As a member of the College of Medicine’s faculty and leadership team, responsible for overall student affairs and student services. Support and participate in the development and operation of undergraduate medical education program that is relevant to the university’s mission, responsive to the needs of the state. This position offers a unique opportunity for physicians to pursue clinical work while contributing to the college’s mission focusing on primary care, education and scholarly activity. Successful candidates will assume a role that will include clinical practice, teaching, scholarly activity, and committee service. As a direct patient care provider, the candidate may provide medical consultation, sports medicine, and acute injury services to include general medicine, minor trauma, and office gynecology including birth control options, office allergy and primary care.

The Associate Dean/Student Affairs functions as an at-will employee under the general supervision of the Senior Associate Dean of Academic Affairs of the College of Medicine, and works in cooperation with appropriate university offices and within existing College of Medicine and university policies, procedures, and practices.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an MD or DO degree. Licensed or eligible for unrestricted licensure in the State of Michigan and Board certification or eligibility in a recognized American Board Medical Specialty. Minimum of five years of leadership experience in an accredited medical school. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a complex environment Demonstrated positive interpersonal, written and oral communication skills Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multiple and diverse stakeholders Commitment to diversity Track record of developing innovative programs for students in areas such as academic, personal, wellness and career counseling Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations

Preferred Qualifications

Academic credentials meriting a faculty appointment at Associate Professor or higher Experience with student affairs, admissions, financial aid, and student health services Experience with LCME accreditation standards Financial and operational acumen Appreciation for the importance of interdisciplinary education Experience with incorporating information technology into student-related services Strong collaborative and communication skills; and a demonstrated commitment to diversity. The best candidates will have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work with all disciplines in the health care team, clinical teaching experience, tolerance for ambiguity, and an understanding of clinical processes and problem solving.
