R&D LABORATORY TECHNICIAN

PREFER LOCAL OR NEAR LOCAL

Kelly Science has a an opening with a Fortune 500 customer in Midland, MI. The contract technician will assist in R&D lab work for the CASE business segment of the Emulsion Polymers business. They will generate reliable and high quality data used for decision making by TS&D engineers and customers. Utilize good laboratory practices to generate reliable and quality data, document scientific findings, and interpret and analyze results. They will also maintain and calibrate lab equipment, working safely with hazardous and non-hazardous materials. They should be able to acquire new skills quickly while working on urgent and multiple tasks.

Cross training in the pilot coater is also a possibility depending on utilization of the application labs. This will consist of assisting the Midland pilot coater team to carry out successful customer trials by reliably preparing formulations, operating pilot coating and finishing equipment.

An important aspect of this job is to integrate well into a diverse, multicultural team. Effective communication between the lab staff and the TS&D engineers is a key requirement.

R&D Lab Technician

Trinseo is seeking candidates to fill the position of R&D Technician. This position will be located in Midland, Michigan.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct R&D lab work for the Paper & Board and CASE business segments of the Emulsion Polymers business.

  • Generate reliable and high quality data used for decision making by TS&D engineers and customers.

  • Develops in-depth technical knowledge relevant to pilot coating and finishing capability & latex binders business.

  • Utilize good laboratory practices to generate reliable and quality data; Document scientific findings; Interpret and analyze results.

  • Maintain and calibrate lab equipment; Work safely with hazardous and non-hazardous materials.

  • Conduct safety, housekeeping and environmental compliance tasks in support of the department and building EH&S programs.

  • Operate pilot equipment designed to simulate actual paper mill coating and finishing processes.

EDUCATION

Required: Associates degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, or related field.

Preferred: Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry, Engineering, Biology, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Previous work experience in R&D environment.

Preferred: Previous work experience in emulsion polymerization technology and laboratory environment/pilot plant.

  • Advanced office skills including Microsoft applications.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs and ability to utilize stairs due to multi-level layout of the machine.

Please provide detailed safety requirements: : Must be able to lift up to OSHA limit of 50 lbs without difficulty.
