McLaren Health Care Reg Nurse in Lapeer, Michigan


Position Summary:

The registered nurse is a professional nurse who coordinates the delivery of nursing care for monitored patients during their hospital stay including cardiac monitoring, hemodynamic stabilization, responsive to emergent situations and care of evidence-based medicine patients. The registered nurse ensures that quality nursing care is rendered to all patients in accordance with the Michigan Department of Public Health, the medical center and nursing department standards. Utilizing the nursing process, functions primarily in direct patient care. The registered nurse participates in maintaining a safe patient care environment, maintains patient privacy, dignity, confidentiality and respects patient’s rights.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  1. Performs purposeful hourly rounding including: Pain, Position, Personal needs and Possessions

  2. Applies the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation, and discharge needs of patient/family

  3. Provides professional direct and indirect patient care in the progressive care setting

  4. Administers medications to patients

  5. Initiates and monitors IVs and medications

  6. Provides an accurate and complete nursing record

  7. Assesses patient condition using vital signs, test results, cardiac monitoring, etc.

  8. Documents in the patient record in a timely, accurate, and concise manner. Develops teaching strategies for patient/family; documents education and learning appropriately in the health record.

  9. Communicates with physician, charge nurses, co-workers as appropriate about changes in patients clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology

  10. Collaborates with ancillary departments regarding test results, medications, and other patient/unit needs

  11. Able to respond quickly and appropriately to changes in patient’s condition or response to treatment

  12. Provides emotional support and reassurance to patient and patient families

  13. Provides education to the patient regarding all necessary health information

  14. Performs other department related duties as assigned

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing

  • Must possess valid State of Michigan Nursing License

  • BLS Certified

  • ACLS certified within 6 months of hire

  • Minimum one year previous experience as a Medical/Surgical or critical care RN or LPN, OR other Medical Center related experience (Student Nurse Tech, Nurse Aide, Unit Clerk, etc.)

  • Possesses excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate and present self to patient, visitors, other staff and physicians verbally and in writing in courteous, confident and professional manner


  • Previous clinical experience in Critical Care Unit (ICU, CCU, ER, OR)

  • BSN in Nursing

  • Completed and certified (up to date) in Basic Arrhythmia

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Trained and educated in age-specific categories being served: infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric
