McLaren Health Care Charge Entry Specialist in Lansing, Michigan
Under general supervision, and according to established policies and procedures, responsible for processing all provider charges in an accurate and timely manner. Provides continuity of flow of incoming and outgoing communication and follows up on outstanding items as necessary to provide excellent service.
Performs to service excellence standard
Ensures daily charges are all processed quickly and accurately according to current breakdown of responsibility. This includes checking for accuracy of information, matching verifications, checking for valid medical information and making necessary corrections.
Maintains updated insurance information through attending seminars as required, completing assignments in McLaren University and having access to electronic carrier manuals, committees and meetings.
Provides proper notations are made on all accounts worked.
Ensures that adequate documentation for billing is requested from other departments on a timely basis to meet carrier filing deadlines.
Verifies reasons for denials as requested by the Centralized Billing Office and returns information to the billing office to rebill appropriate parties.
Maintains a charge entry status/communication log.
Performs various clerical duties such as photocopying, scanning, reports and patient information forms and electronically filing records.Maintains effective operation of office practice during regular office hours, allowing for flexibility regarding overtime, breaks and meals.
Promotes good working relationships and cooperation with staff and customers.
Assists the Billing Office as requested by providing necessary information in a prompt and courteous manner.Organizes time and prioritizes effectively.
Maintains strict confidentiality related to patient information.Regular and punctual attendance.Performs other related duties as assigned.
High school graduate or equivalent.
6 months of current charge entry or medical billing experienceorcompletionof approved medical billing program or 6 months experience in a medical setting.
Experience with insurance provider based billing procedures
Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
Medical Coding/Billing Certification
