Job Summary

This part-time position reports to the Director of Public Safety. This position performs law enforcement functions on the grounds and around the perimeters of all Kalamazoo Valley Community College sites.

Duties include:

  • Patrolling campus locations and surrounding streets.
  • Enforcing local and state laws and parking regulations.
  • Providing service functions including directing traffic and assistance to students and staff.
  • Responding to emergency situations of accidental, medical, industrial, and criminal nature, and taking appropriate action as needed.

Additional responsibilities include investigating criminal and non-criminal incident complaints received from the college community; writing reports involving incidents for presentation to the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office and/or the College’s Ombudsman; working with students and staff on crime prevention issues; developing and presenting related training as appropriate; and other related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate’s degree in an appropriate field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Candidates must have MCOLES certification and be First Aid/CPR certifiable.

Candidates selected to interview for this position will be required to submit to criminal record background and credit history checks.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

At least 5 years of law enforcement experience is strongly preferred.

First Aid/CPR certification is strongly preferred.
