JOB REQUIREMENTS: The Dickinson County Healthcare System (DCHS) seeks an experienced Laboratory Manager to join their team in Iron Mountain, Michigan. This key position directs lab service operations and assures compliance with hospital, local, state, and federal regulatory standards. The ideal candidate is an experienced healthcare professional able to collaborate with all levels of hospital staff to create a positive and effective work environment focused on safe, quality healthcare. This position reports to the Director of Operations and supervises the Lab Analytical Supervisor, Lab Clinical Supervisor, Department Secretary, Lab Clerk, Clinical Patient Access Representative, Lead Technician, Lab Technician, Lab Assistant and Phlebotomist. RESPONSIBILITIES. --Prepare annual capital, operating, and staffing budgets for laboratory services; reviews FTE, financial, and productivity data; makes adjustments to maintain performance within budget. --Direct the day-to-day administrative and technical lab operations to assure accurate and timely provision of service. --Establish and maintain department policy and procedures, goals and objectives, performance improvement, safety, environmental and infection control standards, and assure staff compliance. --Provide mentorship, professional growth, and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, literature, in-service meetings, workshops, and performance appraisal process. --Assure laboratory services are adequately staffed with competent personnel to meet productivity expectations and quality requirements through hiring, training, evaluation, competency assessment, corrective action, and termination as necessary. --Evaluate new and existing services, technologies, and opportunities based on community need; make recommendations to administration. --Serve as a resource to medical staff and others on performance characteristics and interpretation of laboratory test results. WAGE/BENEFITS. Starting pay of $69,472.00 $104,208.00 annually based on knowledge and years of experience. MINIMUM AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS. --Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Biology, Medical Laboratory Science, Chemistry or directly related degree required; degree in Hospital Administration highly desired. --5 years of medical laboratory/technology experience required. --2 years of healthcare supervisory experience desired. --MT (ASCP) certification preferred. --Ability to analyze financials, prepare, and manage an annual capital, operating, and staffing budget. --Exceptional customer service skills with a professional demeanor that ensures trust, competence, and leadership amongst team members. --Possess a strong supervisory aptitude with a proven track record of success in leading daily operations, tracking performance, resolving conflict, and process improvement. --Proficiency with computers and basic office software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook) including experience with computer-based laboratory information system software. --Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks/staff simultaneously. --Ability to successfully pass a pre-hire drug screening and background check.
