Holland Hospital Phlebotomist-Special Procedures in Holland, Michigan
Holland Hospital Laboratory Services provides 24/7 laboratory service to over twenty thousand patients per month. Services are provided to a full spectrum of patients from those receiving emergency or critical care, to patients who are homebound or are residents of skilled nursing facilities, to fully ambulatory, relatively healthy outpatients. Members of the laboratory team include Phlebotomists who receive on the job training and collect samples, Specimen Processors that help prepare samples for testing and degreed positions including Cytotechs, Histotechs and Medical Laboratory Scientists who have all had a combination of 2-4 years of college and a period of clinical internship.
The Phlebotomist Special Procedures works under the general supervision of the Pre-Analytical Services Manager and serves as an integral member of the Laboratory department. The Phlebotomist Special Procedures possesses 1-2 years of Phlebotomy experience and specializes in either Specimen Processing, Patient Registration or Pre-Admission Testing. The Phlebotomist Special Procedures is responsible for the collection and submission of samples and facilitating the flow of specimens and specimen requirement information; or registering patients into the hospital information system for Laboratory services by following appropriate departmental and hospital procedures.
Minimum Education/Training: High School or equivalent education.
Registration/Certification or License Required: Current BLS for the Healthcare Provider or completed within 60 days of hire. Must have a valid driver's license.
Preferred Education: Phlebotomy Certification/Diploma Medical Assistant License. Higher level of education. Advanced training in analytical processes and information systems.
Preferred Experience: 1-2 years Phlebotomy or support position, plus experience in hospital and or/independent laboratory setting. Prior hospital or physician registration experience. Strong proven customer relations skills. Experience with Laboratory Information System, ABN software, and insurance databases.
Physical Requirements: Lift and carry 40-50 lbs. Push/pull +/- 150-200 lbs. (Patients on bed, stretcher). Lateral transfer 150-200 lbs. (ie. Patient). Occasional sitting. Frequent squatting. Continuous standing, walking. Continuous twisting, bending, reaching. Continuous keyboard use. Continuous talking, hearing.
Other Requirements: Basic computer skills. Familiarity with medical terminology.
