Munson Medical Center Reg Respiratory Therapist in Grayling, Michigan

Job Summary: Provide quality respiratory therapy for all patients in accordance with the cardiopulmonary policy and procedures manual, Joint Commission criteria, and hospital policy. Assist the Director of the Cardiopulmonary Services department in the day-to-day operation of the service. Calibrate and operate all therapeutic equipment in keeping with manufacturer's specifications. Participate in Quality Improvement efforts within the department. Discuss with attending physicians and suggest changes in therapeutic modalities as indicated by the patient status. Receive verbal and phone orders from physicians. Provide assistance to nursing on evaluating patient status. Operate, evaluate, make changes on ventilator patients. Confer with the Director. Participate on code team.

Minimum Requirements: Graduate of an AMA accredited school for respiratory therapy. Registered by the National Board for Respiratory Care, Michigan License, and current ACLS. If new graduate must obtain registry, Michigan License and ACLS within 6 months of hire. Ability to perform functions that require application of advanced respiratory therapy.

Position Accountabilities:

  1. Arterial blood gases, arterial line samples: collection, performance, analysis, ensures valid results and identifies critical values and appropriate actions. Maintain annual competencies.

  2. Performs all testing modalities.

  3. Administers all cardiopulmonary modalities/procedures.

  4. Administers medications, recognizes possible side effects, responds to adverse reactions and maintain annual competency evaluations.

  5. Provides airway care to newborn and geriatric patients.

6 Provides cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

  1. Receives and transcribes physician orders for cardiopulmonary services.

  2. Consults/recommends patient treatment plan with physicians.

  3. Provides patient education relating to treatment, home care and preventative measures.

  4. Operates and maintains all cardiopulmonary equipment. Able to trouble shoot equipment.

  5. Initiates and oversees mechanical ventilation.

  6. Performs CP assessment of patients for physicians and nursing staff.

  7. Quality Improvement participation as required by department goals and regulatory agencies.

  8. Participates in continuing self-education.

  9. Provides required clerical duties and completion of required paperwork.

  10. Provides accurate documentation of procedures performed and provides on-coming shift with complete report of patient status.

  11. Provides guidance and clinical direction to CRT and students.

  12. Oversees training, allocation and monitoring of work loads. Provides encouragement and growth to CRT.

PATIENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Is familiar with and adheres to all hospital, departmental policy/procedures/guidelines, current standards of care and all applicable laws/regulations.

  2. Remains calm and act promptly in a logical and constructive manner during a crisis situation.

  3. Completes initial, ongoing assessments of patients and implements interventions based on the assessment.

  4. Serves a resource to nursing, CRT's and students concerning patient assessment and care.

  5. Demonstrates competency in age specific criteria for patient populations identified within the department scope of services with emphasis on acquiring/maintaining ACLS, NRP credentialing.
