Job Information
Aerotek Quality Assurance Laboratory Technician in Grand Rapids, Michigan
Description:
About 75% of their time will be spent on the floor and 25% doing testing. An average day will begin by checking emails and viewing a list of tasks that need to be completed for the day. While on the floor, they will be responsible for swabbing machinery to check for contamination, antibiotic testing, running samples, doing line checks.
Testing: Though they have a lab, the lab will not be similar to the lab that employees may see in colleges. Essentially they will test samples by putting the samples into their machinery, and the machine will kick out results after about 2-3 minutes. The reason that having a life science degree is key, is because they will need to be able to understand the science behind the test that are being run.
-They will be responsible for microbiological evaluations of all raw, pasteurized, and final products. They will operate equipment including spectrometer, FTIR analyzer, moisture analyzer, pH meter, etc. The technician will also perform daily quality audits and checks on the plant floor and document their findings. They will be required to recognize and notify the Quality Assurance Lead, Quality Assurance Manager, and appropriate supervisors of any unusual results or product defects. They will perform the necessary re-checks for analytical and microbiological test. Testing includes Total solids/Moisture Analysis, Powder test for scorched particle, and moisture, Whey Protein Nitrogen test (WPN), Bacteria test (SPC, Coli, LPC). They will be required to properly identify outgoing samples for third party testing.
