The Nurse Manager oversees the activities within the Nursing Department to ensure the utmostsafety, quality, efficiency, and economy of nursing operations. Responsibilities include the facilitation and coordination of medication management as well as direct individual patient care. The Nurse Manager is responsible for both the initial and the on-going education and training of nursing staff in relevant health care areas.

  • Supports the Nursing Department staff in all activities surrounding patient care and treatment; ensuring compliance to regulatory requirements and adherence to policies of The Salvation Army

  • Leads the recruitment, training, performance, and development of the Nursing Department staff, providing direct supervision, daily job assignments, scheduling, and performance counseling

  • Plans, implements, supervises, and documents all in-service training, staff development programs, and department meetings; maintaining knowledge of current nursing practices and best practices

  • Supports the budgeting process by projecting annual expenses and by monitoring expenses and invoices for the Nursing Department

  • Coordinates and monitors patient health records and the dispersion (including periodic medication passing checks), procurement, documentation and evaluation if individual medications; consistently holds staff accountable to organizational policies and procedures

  • Coordinates and implements infection control procedures to protect individuals, staff, and their associates

  • Consults with physicians to develop treatment plans using nursing process for assigned residents per regulatory standards

  • Assess individual health needs by performing admission and routine nursing assessments

  • Monitors patients, treats chronic and emergency medical conditions, and schedules laboratory tests and examinations in compliance with regulatory standards and program policies

  • Documents medical treatment and health status in individual records for continuity of care and treatment team reference per regulatory standards; communicating relevant issues with the physician and reporting medical concerns and needed treatments to the management team

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Current State of Michigan Licensed Nurse, in good standing

  • Nursing degree or completion of, or enrollment in, Registered Nurse program preferred

  • Three years of experience in nursing in a rehabilitation setting with progressive experience in medical supervision

  • CPR certification

  • Computer proficiency with Turning Point Programs’ electronic medical records software required within 30 days of hire

  • Be familiar with relevant corporate policy and procedure and ensure policies and procedures are followed

  • Maintain compliance with all accreditation standards

  • Ability to interact with persons of diverse populations

  • Learn and adhere to The Salvation Army Social Services Code of Ethics

  • Remain up to date with certifications and licensing, adhering to professional codes of ethics

  • Understand and adhere to professional boundaries within and outside of the organization

  • Maintain client confidentiality and obtain appropriate releases of information

  • Demonstrate a continued effort to increase self-awareness and to better understand other cultures and issues of social justice, and promote racial understanding and reconciliation

  • Be supportive of the mission of The Salvation Army
