McLaren Health Care Medical Physicist I in Flint, Michigan
Description
Summary
The Karmanos Cancer Institute - Flint is seeking a medical physicist to fill the position of an upcoming retirement in the summer of this year. This position is based in our main Flint center with occasional need to travel to satellite centers in Owosso and Lapeer about 25 miles away.
The Team
The successful candidate will join a team of 4 physicists, 5 dosimetrists, and 4 physicians providing care for cancer patients across a main center and two satellite centers in the Karmanos network.
The physics team collaborates in all areas of patient care and technical duties and the new team member would have immediate opportunities to make significant contributions across the spectrum of physics duties.
Essential Responsibilities
Radiation therapy equipment calibration, quality assurance
Collaboration with clinical and medical staff on simulation and treatment planning.
Provide ongoing oversight of quality and safety of patient treatment delivery
Brachytherapy source storage, inventory, accountability, safety handling, ordering procedure preparation, and participation in procedures
Participation in department quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs.
Participation in clinical research efforts
Technologies
The main center has two Varian TrueBeams, Phillips CT Simulator, GammaMed Plus HDR unit. The satellite centers are both equipped with Varian 21iX LINACs that are scheduled to be replaced with Varian TrueBeams within 2 years. We offer a broad range of treatments to our patients including SRS/SBRT, respiratory gating, and brachytherapy (HDR, prostate seeds, I-131)
All centers utilize Eclipse treatment planning and Aria record and verify on a common system that is shared with the other Karmanos network sites.
The main site also provides proton therapy with physics services handled by a separate physics team.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Medical Physics or related discipline.
Obtained or eligible for certification (ABR, CCPM).
Two years of prior work experience as a Medical Physicist or Medical Physics Resident.
