Beaumont Health Chief Radiation Therapist in Farmington Hills, Michigan
The Chief Radiation Therapist manages the technical staff (Radiation Therapists and Radiation Therapists Senior) and oversees the clinical operations of the Radiation Oncology patient treatment areas for health care system. This individual plays an integral part in organizing and monitoring the treatment section to meet the needs of those patients receiving Radiation Therapy services. The Chief Radiation Therapist supervises and trains all therapy personnel; equipment management; administration of the quality assurance plan; attends and participates in department committees and meetings; advises management on appropriate capital equipment acquisitions; assists department in meeting goals and objectives and meeting department budget; and oversees proper charge capture procedures for radiation therapy services. The management of the radiation therapist staff includes maintaining proper staffing levels, hiring and terminating staff as appropriate, performing performance evaluations and initiating any disciplinary action as needed. Reports to the director of clinical physics.
? Manages accurate radiation services to patients. Assists and adapts in meeting department goals and objectives. Creates learning objectives for the therapy staff with learning instructions and competencies that are completed yearly. Participates as a committee member for the Joint Commission Review team to help meet hospital standards.
? Manages and schedules therapy staff to various equipment, establishes work goals, and reviews employee performance. Recommend task assignments and other organizational changes. Promotes and empowers staff learning of new skills to engage the staff in the entire Radiation Therapy team process. Schedules and organizes equipment training and looks for new equipment and techniques to keep the therapists up to date in the radiation therapy field. Ensures necessary supplies are distributed to each site.
? Indicates independent actions, judgment, and decision-making. Makes critical decisions regarding clinic operations including after hour treatments and machine downtime plans. Demonstrates good financial stewardship through management of department resources and management of overtime and overstaffing.
? Conducts evaluations, interviews, and assists in filling open positions. Provides clinical instruction of Radiation therapists, Radiation Therapists Senior and students as it pertains to department and hospital. Provides all necessary information to all therapists and related staff to maintain efficient and productive communication between all areas and sites.
? Assures quality assurance and radiation safety procedures are established and implemented. Evaluates technical quality of treatments.
? Establish department policies and procedures through the Clinical Operations Committee. Attends meetings and in-services. Develops and implements process improvement projects. Provides leadership to the department as needed in the absence of the Director of Clinical Physics.
? Oversees or completes chart audits for charging on all completed patients and corrects any errors found. Educates therapy staff on the billing process. Assists the department in periodic review of charge capture procedures and educates personnel on new updates to billing procedures. Updates the billing documents to reflect any changes.
? Participates in clinical treatment delivery and simulation as needed and able to operate all radiation therapy equipment in the department (i.e., linear accelerators, CT Simulator, immobilization devices, computer systems). This includes administering a prescribed dose of treatment while providing quality patient care and patient confidentiality. Maintains pertinent records of the treatment and patient progress.

? Education / Training: At minimum, requires a level of knowledge normally acquired through the completion of an associate or bachelor's degree. Master's degree or pursuing a Master's degree is highly desired.
? Work Experience: Requires a minimum of five years' experience with Radiation Oncology practices. Previous leadership role in Radiation Oncology highly desired.
? Certification, Licensure, Registration: Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) for Radiation Therapy. BLS CPR certification required.
? Other Qualifications: Requires demonstrated proficiency using linear accelerator and CT simulator. Commitment to follow the Radiation Code of Ethics. Must be able to keep abreast of current regulatory developments with respect to Radiation Oncology and issues affecting hospital policies and procedures. Requires demonstrated familiarity with spreadsheet software and word processing, the ability to recognize data patterns, and perform computational skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required to interact with patients and wide range of healthcare professionals. Requires the ability to effectively discuss complex and technical issues with a diverse audience.
