Agricultural Research Service Research Molecular Biologist in East Lansing, Michigan

Summary Incumbent is a Research Molecular Biologist in the Sugarbeet and Bean Research Unit, East Lansing, Michigan. The incumbent will be responsible for collection and analysis of data in support of the unit's research program. The incumbent will be part of a multidisciplinary research team, and participate in planning, executing, evaluating and reporting research activities. *ANNOUNCEMENT IS OPEN UNTIL FILLED OR MARCH 14, 2022 WHEN THE ANNOUNCEMENT CLOSES Responsibilities Identify genomic elements associated with fungicide resistance in plant pathogens. Characterize genetic diversity and temporal changes in population genetics of plant pathogens of grape. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications This position requires a recent (within the last four years) Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genomics, Plant Pathology, Evolution, Microbiology or related fields with an emphasis in population genetics or bioinformatics and other necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to conduct research. To achieve these objectives, the incumbent is expected to have broad knowledge of, and extensive research skills in, genetics, population genetics, bioinformatics, with some experience in plant pathology or microbiology. Applicants must meet basic Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standard's requirements of the scientific discipline necessary to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position. General Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series, 0401 Basic Requirements Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. GS-11: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9. Specialized experience is described as the ability to initiate and lead research projects, interpret results, and prepare refereed publications. In addition, the incumbent must have a proven ability in working with a team of scientists and leading initiatives on broad agricultural problems. Education This position has a positive education requirement.
