h3Position Summary/h3 Understanding plant biology in general and photosynthesis in particular at the molecular level is key to meeting todayand#8217;s sustainability challenges. With the ultimate goal of facilitating a robust bioeconomy, the Vermaas lab will leverage computational methods such as atomistic or coarse-grained molecular dynamics simulations with both classical and machine-learned force fields to study key questions around photosynthesis and plant structural biology. The lab will study plant cell nanocompartments such as the carboxysome, membrane-protein interactions within photosynthesis, and plant cell wall crowding and biochemistry. By using and developing these molecular simulation tools, the Vermaas lab seeks to create a molecular-level picture of these biological phenomena, and is looking for up to three postdoctoral scholars seeking to further their own career by collaborating in this space. h3Required Degree/h3 Doctorate -Biophysics, Plant Biology, Biochemistry h3Minimum Requirements/h3 style="list-style-type: disc" liA PhD in Biophysics, Plant Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, Computer Science, or a related field/li liA publication record commensurate with career stage and field/li liAn interest in applying physics-based computational approaches to study biological systems in photosynthesis and sustainability broadly/li /ul h3Desired Qualifications/h3 No prior experience in molecular simulation is required. Day to day, the expectation is that the scholars will be expected to learn or have prior experience with a programming language such as python, Unix-based operating systems such as MacOS or Linux.
