Unit Position Summary
The primary duties of the Laboratory Assistant will include performing metabolite extractions from biological samples, preparation of analytical standards and stock solutions, and performing serial dilutions. Additionally, individuals may have the opportunity to assist with the setup and execution of LC-MS experiments to quantify biological molecules, and to supervise undergraduate assistants. Laboratory Assistants may also have the opportunity to participate in individual research projects. Training will be provided for all procedures to be performed in the lab, and no previous experience with mass spectrometry instrumentation is required.
Desired Qualifications
Qualified applicants should have recently obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology or a related life science area and should be able to demonstrate aptitude in general laboratory skills including pipetting, serial dilutions, attention to detail, and record keeping. Completion of the Capstone Lab in Physiology or an equivalent laboratory course as part of the bachelor’s degree course of study is required for this position.
