h3Working/Functional Title/h3 Director of Clinical Experiences h3Position Summary/h3 The Michigan State University College of Human Medicineand#8217;s Office of Academic Affairs invites applications for a position of Director of the Late Clinical Experience (LCE). and#160;In 2016, the College of Human Medicine (CHM) implemented an innovative new curriculum, envisioned to be responsive to the needs of students and faculty in a new technological era and a new medical landscape.and#160; This new curriculum, the Shared Discovery Curriculum (SDC), provides integrated content organized around patient complaints and concerns.and#160; It is an experience-based curriculum where medical students learn by doing. As part of the implementation, the college has created clinical experiences starting soon after students matriculate. During the first year, students are placed in primary care settings throughout the Lansing and Grand Rapids communities. This is known as the Early Clinical Experience. Second year students rotate through twelve different types of clinical settings including respiratory therapy, hospice and palliative care, pediatric wards, adult wards, and emergency medicine as the Middle Clinical Experience. The Late Clinical Experience includes clerkships in the primary specialties and elective rotations and occurs in the community campuses across Michigan (Marquette, Traverse City, Grand Rapids, Lansing, Flint, Midland, and Southeast Michigan). In addition to the clinical experiences, students engage in intensive study of basic sciences, epidemiology, health policy and other social sciences during the intersessions which are part of the spring semesters of both the Early and Middle Clinical Experiences. The Late Clinical Experience includes the Advanced Skills and Knowledge courses which span the entire last two years. and#160; Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Clinical Experiences, the LCE Director is responsible for implementation and management of the programs and policies of the CHM Late Clinical Experience including: style="list-style-type: disc" liChair the LCE Curriculum Development Group meetings and other stakeholder meetings as appropriate./li liEngage with clinical communities regarding the educational experience of students./li liAssist with development/revision of clerkship and elective experiences for the LCE./li liEngage with faculty and community campuses in the planning and implementation of teaching and learning activities for the Advanced Skills and Knowledge course sequence./li liAssist the Assistant Dean for Clinical Experiences in planning development/ revision of curriculum in response to student outcomes and stakeholder data./li liMeet with students as appropriate to discuss problems/issues/feedback from experiences./li liEngage with students, preceptors, and clinical communities or sites when concerns occur./li liWork with leadership of the SDC and of clerkships/electives/community campuses to develop and implement policies for LCE./li liWork withand#160;Just-in-Time Medicine staff to ensure LCE curricular materials are accessible to all who need them./li /ul Academic department and rank will be determined based upon qualifications and experience. h3Required Degree/h3 Doctorate h3Minimum Requirements/h3 The successful candidate will have a medical degree including MD or DO; teaching experience with multiple educational modalities; experience working with faculty teams and demonstrated effectiveness working with students at a variety of performance levels.and#160; h3Desired Qualifications/h3 Experience in any of the following areas: curriculum design, learner assessment, and program evaluation an
