Henry Ford Health System Nurse Assistant - Medical/Surgical - Infectious Disease - Detroit - 36 Hours - Midnights in Detroit, Michigan

Location/Unit: Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit - Infectious Disease Unit

Shift: Midnights – 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM

Hours: 36

Weekends: Rotating

Employment Status: Part-Time with Full-Time Benefits


Common diagnoses in the Infectious Disease Unit include cellulitis, sepsis, HIV/AIDS, pneumonia, osteomyelitis, infected ulcers and any other fungal, bacterial and viral infections. This 23-bed unit hosts 12 negative pressure rooms and treats patients 15 years and older. The staff specialize in caring for special pathogens including MERS and multi-drug resistant organisms.


Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN), performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. The Nurse Assistant follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.


  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

  • Completion of a Nurse Assistant program with OR without experience in the Nurse Assistant or any additional institution specific titles* that performs the same job role OR Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA-preferred) with or without experience in the Nurse Assistant or any additional institution specific titles* that performs the same job role OR currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Nursing course or foreign trained and licensed RN who has relocated to the United States and does not hold a Michigan RN license. *Examples include but are not limited to Patient Care Technician (PCT), or Patient Assistant Technician (PAT).


  • Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred or are currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed Fundamentals of Nursing or successfully completed the Henry Ford Health System Nurse Assistant Program.

  • Complete BLS Heartsaver Certification during orientation.
