Henry Ford Health System Neurologist ICU in Detroit, Michigan

Henry Ford Medical Group’s Departments of Neurology & Neurosurgery are seeking a board certified or eligible Neurologist with Neurocritical Care Fellowship training for a faculty position at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

The new faculty will join our current group of Neurointensivists (3), in staffing a 16-bed Neurosciences ICU in a fast paced, tertiary care referral center. The Neurointensivist team utilizes multimodality monitoring on a routine basis and participates in multicenter trials. Responsibilities include management and care of patients with complex neurologic and neurosurgical disease as a member of a multidisciplinary neurocritical care team which includes neurosurgery, neurology, neuro-IR, trauma surgery, fellows, residents, medical students, and advanced practice providers. We are seeking a well-rounded Neurointensivist interested in the training of Neurocritical Care fellows, residents and medical students.

In the last five years, the Department of Neurology has received over $47 Million in clinical and basic science research funding for 245 grants and contracts, averaging 3-7 NIH grants a year.

The package includes protected time for clinical or basic research. This position is open to BE/BC Neurologists with Neurocritical Care fellowship training. This is an academic position as an Instructor/Assistant Professor. Physicians are employed by the Henry Ford Medical Group and work exclusively for the medical group.

Our Department of Neurology has a long tradition of excellence in stroke care. We were the coordinating center for the ground-breaking prospective randomized 1995 NINDS tPA Stroke Trial that showed the efficacy and safety of tPA within 3 hours of stroke onset. Our Stroke team provides integrated care at Henry Ford Hospital, a Joint Commission Comprehensive Stroke Center and AHA/ASA Gold Plus and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite status. Our HF West Bloomfield Hospital is a Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center and has a Gold Elite status. Our three other hospitals are Primary Stroke Centers with HF Macomb and HF Allegiance hospitals having Gold Plus and Target Stroke Honor Roll Elite status and HF Wyandotte Hospital having Silver Plus status.

This subspecialty academic practice position also offers time for educational endeavors, including protected time for clinical research, a teaching role with medical students, Neurology residents, and Neurocritical Care fellows as well as a tenure-track academic appointment is available for those who qualify, through Wayne State University. In June 2020, Henry Ford Health System and Michigan State University have signed a letter of intent to make Henry Ford Hospital the primary academic affiliation of Michigan State University with a goal of reaching a definitive agreement by the end of 2020.
