Position Summary: The Rehabilitation Services Staff Occupational Therapist provides evaluation and treatment of hospital inpatients and outpatients in a range of specialty programs. The Staff Occupational Therapist provides evaluation and treatment of acute and inpatient rehab patients. Needs to work well in a team environment and be a self starter with great time management skills.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offer solutions, and participates in their resolution.

Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, employees, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea/Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.

Maintains knowledge to perform the duties of the job. Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety and that of coworkers, and to report all preventable hazards and unsafe practices immediately to management.

Demonstrates self-directed learning.

Behaves in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea/Saint Joseph Mercy Health System.

Provides quality patient care by considering the age specific, development and cultural needs through competent clinical practice. Demonstrates unit/area competencies.

Identifies and assists in resolution of problems related to safety, sanitation and maintenance of the environment.

Practices effective communication in all interactions (patient, visitor, co-worker, etc.)

Promotes a positive work environment by demonstrating teamwork.

Orients patients and families to the therapeutic purposes and procedures of Occupational Therapy.

Instructs patients and families in individualized home programs.

Participates in departmental quality assurance and improvement activities.

Provides for his/her own professional growth and education and contributes to staff development activities.

Supervises Occupational Therapy fieldwork students as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator or Student Program Coordinator.

Stays up to date on all participating insurance guidelines for rehabilitation services.

Provides thorough documentation on each patient interaction. Documentation must be timely and include all pertinent information required by state law, accrediting agencies and 3rd party payers.

Completes daily charges for each patient while adhering to ethical practices per insurance guidelines for each payer.

Works with Team leaders and secretarial staff to ensure schedules are managed well to achieve targeted productivity and clinic budget.

Participates in regularly scheduled staff meetings.

Other Functions and Responsibilities:

1) Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience and Certification/Licensure:

1) Bachelors Degree in Occupational Therapy from accredited university and licensure in the State of Michigan. Certification with the NBCOT preferred .
