Munson Healthcare Quality and Risk Management Coordinator in Charlevoix, Michigan

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan.

Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required, Master’s degree preferred. Risk Management Certification preferred, or obtained within two years of hire.

Prefer 3-5 years of experience in quality improvement experience in a healthcare environment. Risk management and Medical Staff peer review experience preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work well with management and other professionals in a direct and positive manner.

Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills to track outcomes.

Self-directed; able to work effectively and efficiently with multiple interruptions and changing work priorities. Strong organizational and time management skills required. Able to make reliable independent decisions using analytical problem solving skills. Demonstrates initiative and creativity in assigned work. Highly detail and team oriented.

Ability to proficiently create and utilize databases, word-processing, spreadsheets, presentation programs and other software relevant to the job. Requires technical knowledge of hospital applications data-query software spreadsheets and report-generating software. Internet skills and literature search capabilities

ORGANIZATION: Accountable to the East Region Quality, Safety and Risk Director with local reporting to the Chief Nursing Officer and Vice President of Patient Care Services.

Works collaboratively and effectively, and serves as a liaison between all members of the Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital Leadership team, Nursing department, Infection Prevention, Medical Staff Office and all other members of the patient care team.

Occasional clinical contact with all patient populations

SPECIFIC DUTIES

Has basic understanding of Relationship-Based Care (RBC) principles, meets expectations outlined in Commitment To My Co-workers, and supports RBC unit action plans.

Uses effective customer service/interpersonal skills at all times.

Implements and manages all phases of promoting healthcare quality. Provides graphics for nursing departments and others as requested. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.

Determines the appropriate statistical/performance improvement reporting method, which allows for the most accurate representation of the data. Statistical methods included are run and control charts, cause and effect diagrams, process flow diagrams, and pareto charts.

In conjunction with the Regional Quality, Safety, Risk director and the CNO, analyzes reports, draw conclusions and assist with benchmark identification.

Provides leadership and consultative services to departments and services within the organization in achieving regulatory, accreditation, and organizational compliance in quality and performance management and improvement activities.

Liaison to Chair of the Hospital Board Quality and Patient Safety committee. Serves on various hospital, professional, and community committees as appropriate; provides ongoing leadership, consultation and education for hospital policies, procedures and CQ/Patient Safety programs/activities designed to meet regulatory and accrediting agency requirements (i.e. Joint Commission, CMS, , and Peer Review organizations)

Performs quality improvement training and education to individuals, units, councils or groups.

Develops Department Quality Champions on each unit and in collaboration with the appropriate departments and personnel develops, maintains, and updates an orientation/resource packet for the department Quality Champion role (HAPU, Falls, Restraints).

Attends daily check-ins and attend post-fall huddles when available.

Attends Risk, Quality and Patient Safety system, regional and local meetings

Monitors incident reports to ensure appropriate data collection and follow-up has occurred for nurse sensitive quality care issues.

Assures confidentiality and integrity of department performance improvement and patients case review activities

Collaborates with nursing leadership to identify recommendations for high quality, cost effective care and practice improvements and performance improvement measures.
