POSITION SUMMARY:

The Screener is assisting UGLFHC with infection prevention strategies by monitoring, recording, and, when appropriate, limiting access to UGLFHC facilities based on set criteria and protocol when an individual is suspected of having an infectious illness and the potential to infect others. The Screener asks questions on topics related to symptoms, travel history, and other applicable screening criteria including screening for fever. The Screener will also record data and help to ensure all who are permitted entry are given and/or are wearing a mask or face covering.

Education, Training, Licensing and Credentialing

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred:

  • Completion of coursework in a program or curriculum in a healthcare-related field

Experience and Skills

Required:

  • Basic computer and typing skills

  • Possess verbal and non-verbal communication skills necessary to provide excellent customer service in a patient-centric environment

  • Ability to remain calm under a variety of circumstances

  • Ability to wear basic personal protective equipment (PPE) for prolonged periods of time

  • Ability to follow instructions and rapidly adapt to change

Preferred:

  • Regular sitting for prolonged periods of time

  • Occasional standing and walking

  • Regular use of PPE, including wearing a mask

  • Regular repetitive verbal interactions with people

  • Repetitive motion from performing daily tasks including manual dexterity particularly related to computer usage and using a digital thermometer

  • Visual abilities including depth perception, ocular focus, close vision, color vision

  • Adequate hearing and visual acuity to perform daily work

  • Ability to adjust physically and emotionally to a fast-paced work environment

Working Conditions:

  • Moderate risk of exposure to infections and contagious disease in a public setting and clinic environment

  • Direct contact with the public and patients with mandatory use of PPE

  • Occasionally subjected to difficult situations with people under a variety of circumstances

  • Occasionally required to work a varying schedule

  • Environment may contain housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals, hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment, and biohazards and/or radioactive substances
