McLaren Health Care Laboratory Assistant II in Bay City, Michigan
Daily WorkTimes: 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Scheduled Bi-weekly Hours: 80
Collects and prepares blood samples for laboratory testing. Enters collections of such specimens in lab
information system. Assists medical technologists and/or pathologists in
performing designated laboratory tests. Assists with maintaining laboratory
equipment and records following established accreditation guidelines and
quality control standards.
Job Specific Dutiesand Responsibilities:
Uses skin puncture and venipuncture techniques toobtain blood samples.
Follows defined process in obtaining samplesincluding verifying patient information, labeling specimen vials, andmatching laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Disposes of contaminated needles in accordancewith applicable laws, standards, and policies.
Disposes of blood or other biohazard fluids ortissue, in accordance with applicable laws, standards, or policies.
Enters patient, specimen, insurance, or billinginformation into appropriate system(s).
Processes specimens according to establishedguidelines.
Organizes blood-drawing trays, ensuring that allinstruments are sterile and all needles, syringes, or related items are offirst-time use.
Maintains safe and clean working environment andprotects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control,hazardous waste and other policies and protocols.
Performs other related duties as required anddirected.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training course in approved program.
CPR issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross Certification
- Certified as a phlebotomy technician by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOR).
Must follow AIDET for all patient encounters
Valid Michigan driver’s license, and a driver’s record approved by the Medical Center’s insurance agent for those employees who drive a vehicle as a requirement for the job (If Applicable)
