GENERAL SUMMARY AND PURPOSE:
Analyzes and interprets send out test results for testing utilization while working closely with the pathologists. Designing and executing updated or new processes for send out. Training of laboratory staff on send out process. Data collection if applicable. Maintaining send out procedures. Provides quality patient care considering age specific, developmental, and cultural needs of the patient. Demonstrates unit/area-designated competencies.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION
- Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, or university in Medical Technology, or equivalent work/education, experience, or related science required.
- Medical Technologist (MT)/Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – through reputable organization such as AMT, ABB, or ASCP required.
*ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:*
Acts as resource/liaison for send out testing to various offsite labs
Provides resources and oversight of training/competency assessment of Central Sterile Processing (CSP) staff for send out procedures, including reference lab interface related processes.
Notifies appropriate personnel of problems such as unacceptable specimens, equipment malfunctions, and quality control aberrations, in relation to send out testing along with problem issue resolution
Develop and/or maintain policies and procedures related to send out testing including web catalog accuracy
Takes an active role in process improvement related to send out testing.
Collects data including that required for process improvement and quality metrics.
Ensuring specimen requirements for send out testing including specimen label container and special handling are accurate.
Coordinates staffing of send out area with CSP section leaders
Monitors test utilization patterns for inpatients and outpatients within area of responsibility working closely with the pathologist(s), with development of methods to positively impact these patterns. Reporting to pathologist trends and inaccuracies.
Resource for send out related new LIS project items
Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner.
Maintains the confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patient, physicians, colleagues, and visitors to St. Joseph Mercy Health. Discusses patient and hospital information only among appropriate personnel in appropriately private places.
Behaves in accordance with the Code of Conduct, Service Excellence Standards, and the Mission, Vision and Values of SJMH.
Assumes responsibility for performance of job duties in the safest possible manner, to assure personal safety
